Learning’s from Life On A Bike

Yesterday I got a very good lesson because of my ignorant habit, life is full of learning’s and we learn from our mistakes, every time we face any critical situations and able to tackle it, we graduate to next level, but it does not mean we must always repeat the same mistakes.

It was a very interesting experience, I just thought to share it with all you guys. It must have happened to most of us but still we never take it seriously and repeat the same mistake again and again.

Yesterday at 7:00pm I left my office and went towards parking, I started my bike and move toward my home, but with in few minutes my bike started giving jerks and stopped. It was hardly a kilometer I must have covered. I was not tensed but little surprised and started thinking about the reason for this abrupt stop.

The first thing which came to my mind is petrol, from last 3 days I am riding my bike on reserve, and yesterday morning because of laziness I didn’t stopped at Petrol pump. I opened the Petrol tank and shaken my bike twice, I was able to feel the noise of petrol. So one thing was clear that there is some petrol in my bike, but I was still confused with the reason.

I take good care of my bike, in every two months I put my bike for servicing, this is my new bike which I have purchased 2 years back. I knew nothing can go wrong so easily. I was not tensed, but bit worried because I wanted to go home early.

There was so much of traffic on the road and because of the noise I was unable to think properly. I just saw a small lane on my right side; I crossed the road and pushed my bike in to that lane. I parked my bike near a shop, there was very less noise and then I started feeling comfortable, I had one five star fruit and nut in my pocket, I removed that and started eating and thinking about the next step that I should take.

First thing which came to my mind was the nearest help which I can get, it is from my office, so I called one of my office colleague but that was just a waste of time and money, I had only 12Rs balance and I wasted my 4Rs in that call. He gave me some wearied advice which I already knew, He told me to go to some mechanic which was 1km away from that place, I already knew that and I had kept that as my last option.

I have few very good friends in my office but because of Diwali most of them have already left for their hometown. Then I called another colleague and told him about my situation, he immediately got ready for my help and with in few minutes he also reached at my place.

He looked at my bike and tried to start it but nothing was effective, at lastly we both thought to get some petrol and try once again, but we didn’t had any empty bottle. We both went to near shopkeeper and asked for empty bottle, but that guy was totally business minded and dined lastly we have to purchase one water bottle which cost me 15Rs. We drinked half bottle of water and rest all we drained on the road.

On my friends bike we went to nearest petrol pump and purchased 1lt of petrol which cost me something around 50Rs. We both came back towards my bike and started filling its petrol tank. We both were very hopeful that this time it will definitely get start. But nothing worked out, all went in to wane. My bike was still in the same condition and now I knew that I have to drag it to the mechanic. I asked my friend if he can help me in dragging through his bike, but nothing worked out we tried but it was very difficult for both of us to control our bikes, lastly I decide to drag my bike, my friend had some pending work at office so he left from there.

I started dragging my bike and thinking about the reasons, I knew I have to drag my bike to 1km, but with in few meters I started sweating. It was already 8:30pm and now I have to move fast before shops gets closed. But I was very fortunate, with in 100mts of range I saw one small shop, few people were sitting there and one person was involved in repairing an old bike, I took one long relieved breath and approached towards that shop.

I asked that guy to check my bike, after some time he told me that there is no petrol in the bike; I got surprised as I have recently put 1lt of petrol in my bike. He removed the pipe which connects the petrol tank to engine and show me that there is no petrol flowing in the pipe.

I got surprised and told him that there might be some blockage in the pipe and asked him to pass air through it, he did the same thing and with in few seconds petrol started flowing through it. He immediately connects that pipe to engine and started the bike, and my bike got started, I was so relieved and thanked him for helping me. I gave him 10Rs, and thanked him again.

My losses and learning’s from this incident.

Loss = 4Rs phone call+15Rs water bottle+10Rs to mechanic =29Rs

Learning
Never ride your bike in reserve, as soon as bike came in to reserve fill your tank again it will keep petrol floating in to the pipes.
